[Considered the source of these stones]
Adam Clay

Considered the source of these stones.

They exist at the bottom of every swallow of water

and among the potatoes in a deep-bucket kept

up high.

What we desire changes from day to night.

What I hoped to exist is not a stone,

but a coin, for money

throws light across any room.

A stone, dark on the inside, darkens every room it enters.

A stone bound to drag me to the bottom.
