Acid Bone
Noelle Kocot

I have given you everything, and the roundish

Orbit, the way you turn your head, is what

We take for granted. We breathe out the afternoon,

We breathe summer’s pulsing hours, and what

You leave me with is the rain filled with night.

The moon against these innocuous sidewalks,

The traces of collision and torch, the color

Of that shirt you wore, come crashing into play.

On our tongues, the hysterical intimidation

Of a temporal heart, the varicose fences we have

Yet to climb. The singular freedom we know

Beyond dusk showers us like hunters shower

Bullets on the Canadian geese. You have sweetly

Chosen the acid bone. I can tell you know about it.
